Who is the course aimed at?
This Level 3 award is ideal if you assess, or want to assess, the achievement of competence in the workplace. It is a mandatory requirement for the assessment of NVQ/QCF based qualifications and replaces the previous assessor qualifications such as A1, A2, D32 and D33.
This qualification is ideal if you want to assess vocational skills, knowledge and understanding in environments other than the work environment (for example, a workshop, classroom or another training environment).
About the course:
The Level 3 course provides a pathway for learners to understand assessment and if required, qualify as an assessor. Learners who wish to achieve these units could be assessing competence or non-competence based learning, knowledge or skills. They will select the units and qualifications that meet the requirements of what they are assessing.
There are three awards and a certificate available at Level 3:
The Level 3 Award in Understanding the Principles and Practices of Assessment: this is a knowledge only award for those who are starting their journey as an assessor, or for those who need to know about assessment practice but are not currently practising.
The Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement: this is for practitioners who may use all of the above-listed assessment methods based upon sound assessment principles. If you want to train as an assessor with this qualification, you should have a minimum of a Level 3 qualification in the subject area that you want to assess.
Your tutor will also observe you through practical work-based activities, where the theory you learn can be put into practice.
Theory and practical assessments take place once a week, and the remainder of the week you will be working in an office-based environment.
Entry requirements for Assessor course (TAQA):
These qualifications are available to anyone who is capable of reaching the required standards.
Course Length
There is no minimum duration but the qualification is awarded when you have met the assessment criteria. The average course length is 4 weeks but can be done in 2 weeks on fast track.
Course assessment:
No formal examination is required for this course, but at the end of the course you need to submit portfolio of evidence.

Assessing Vocational Achievement qualification is intended for those who assess vocational skills, knowledge and understanding in environments other than the work environment (for example a workshop, classroom or other training environment). It includes the following assessment methods: Assessments of the learner in simulated environments, Skills tests, oral and written questions, assignments, projects, case studies and recognizing prior learning.
This Vocational level consists of the following 3 Unit:
Unit 1: Understanding the principles and practices of assessment D/601/5313
Unit 2:Assess Occupational Competence in the Work Environment H/601/5314
Unit 3: Assess vocational skills, knowledge and understanding F/601/5319
Please note: Unit 1 will give you comprehensive understanding of assessment however if you wish to achieve full Assessor qualification (Assessor status) you need to do unit 1 and Unit 2 or Unit 3.
You don't have to do all 3 units to achieve the full qualification, selecting the unit will be depend on the nature of the job you do (Current profession) for example: If you work as a practitioner like assess the demonstration of competence in a work environment then you need to do competence level Unit 1 and Unit 2.
On the other hand, if you work within the environment like workshop, classroom or other training environment then you need to do Vocational level unit 1 and unit 3.
During your induction your assessor will brief you on the appropriateoptions (Competence and Vocational level) for you to choose.
